CBD for Sleep or CBN?

We’re all lovely mindful of what the marijuana plant is now. If we concur with the assertions, we’re all beautiful recognizable that there is a developing assortment of medical research on the side of the positive benefits of marijuana for a Broad Spectrum of medical issues, just as for recreational purposes.

At which point, the majority of us are even mindful that the US assigns higher-THC marijuana as pot, and lower-THC marijuana as hemp, with a cutoff line at .3% THC to make the assignment.

When examining the plant closer, we can select different plant influences to change compounds like THC, CBD, and limonene. We appreciate cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other plant components, some of which are helpful and aren’t as interesting.

THC is the fundamental psychoactive part, with a Schedule I spot in the Controlled Substances rundown of the US, while likewise being in Schedule I of both the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the Convention on Psychotropic Substances.

THC isn’t the solitary psychoactive compound, however. Not exclusively does delta-9 THC oxidize to shape another form of THC called delta-8; however, there are other cannabinoids – though appearing in negligible amounts – that additionally have psychoactive properties. One of these is CBN or cannabinol.

CBN was the first cannabinoid of the marijuana plant to be segregated and studied before some other cannabinoid. In 1899 Thomas Wood, W.T. Spivey, and Thomas Easterfield acquired the molecule from charas, a type of marijuana (resin) tar. They used liquor to remove from the charas and ran the color through a partial refining interaction to deliver a gooey oil. From here, they were playing out the compound response with acetylation to obtain CBN.

Robert S. Cahn

During the 1930s, Robert S. Cahn was the initial person to classify its creation – giving it the name cannabinol, with the principal blend done in the mid-1940s by Roger Adams. Cannabinol is a cannabinoid framed when the forerunner corrosive to THC – THCA is presented to air and daylight over the long run. THCA converts to cannabinolic corrosive (CBNA), which further decarboxylates (loses a carboxyl gathering – COOH) to frame CBN.

Consequently, CBN is bound to be found in matured plants than new ones. CBN is considerably more somewhat psychoactive than THC, for confident analysts putting it at 4/10 the strength. The compound leans towards CB2 receptors to CB1 receptors in the cerebrum.

While both THC and CBN initiate the CB1 and CB2 receptors, there is a principal distinction between the cannabinoids.

CBN vs. delta 8-9, THCs

CBN and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) activate CB receptors in the brain, have psychoactive effects and cannabinoids. But there is a fundamental difference that comes down to structure.

The point that delta-8, delta-9, and delta-10 THCs all have in general is that they have the identical chemical structure of C21H30O2. They are isomers of each other because the C21H30O2 chemical composition stays the same, with the only exception being in the placement of a double carbon bond. In delta-8, THC is on the 8th carbon atom in the chain, delta-9 on the 9th, and delta-10 on the 10th.

On the other hand, CBN has a chemical structure: C21H26O2, which is different than tetrahydrocannabinol. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol which are isomers of each other, CBN has no stereoisomers or geometric isomers.

It doesn’t share its chemical structure with another molecule with the same number of atoms of each element but different configurations. So, whereas several different tetrahydrocannabinol has been found, only one CBN exists.

CBN isn’t explicitly listed in the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs or the Convention on Psychotropic Substances like THC. All signing countries of these conventions are not bound by international law to regulate CBN.

Conclusion

CBN is in close opposite to THC, which is registered in both agreements. In the US, CBN is illegal under federal law, just like THC. Including its use medically as well as for use in food products or as additives. CBN is not explicitly named in the DEA Controlled Substances list, but it remains a Schedule I controlled substance.

The sale of CBN products and having possession of them is prosecutable by the Federal Analogue Act. CBN is an analog of THC because the chemical structure is nearly identical, with very similar pharmacological and medical properties. They were making it debatable as no clarification has been made about CBN in the Interim Final Rule by the DEA or the Final Rule by the USDA.

  1. Hello Kevin,

Fascinating and informative information you have here

and I’d like to thank you for sharing this.

My girlfriend had introduced me to this because both of us

    suffer from overall body pain.

She mainly used a lot of it as she said it did help her a lot

with her pain, and I was so relieved about that because I

am most concerned about her condition than mine as she had

    nine surgeries already.

That is a lot and to know that she is getting relief is such a

huge relief for both of us too.

We never knew about the importance of it to have a good

sleep and so grateful that I come across this message.

Thank you so much for your much-needed information

and hopefully, more and more people would be aware of

such significant factors relating to good sleep.

    God bless you, Kevin.

  2. Well, this was a great post. I learned a lot about CBN that I had no idea about before reading this article. I have tried marijuana to stay creative. However, I have not had the chance to try CBD or CBN. I personally have had sleeping issues in the past. I used many OTC sleeping aids, and I found they are habit-forming.

I relied on the OTC sleeping aids too much and found they did not regulate my sleep. I had no idea CBN helped with sleep, and I plan to try out more natural ways to help me sleep. I see you did a lot of research for this post and are well versed in this topic. Thank you for providing me some insights on alternative and natural sleep aids.

    1. Hello,

I am very grateful you found value from the information provided here. If I can be of further help, please contact me.

      Cheers,

      Kevin

  3. Since I have family and friends with sleep issues I appreciate your article very much and will share this information with them. You have enlightened me on this subject as I have tried a few CBD products in the past but did not notice any significant benefits. I appreciate this information.

  4. Hey Kevin, Interesting info on here, I’ve used CBD before & smoked weed but I didn’t know that CBN was a thing.

I live in a medical state but it’s not recreational here yet & so many people act like it’s recreational though which I kind of find to be funny because it’s not legal unless you have a medical card.

Keep up the good blog posts. I hope all is well.

    1. Hello, Mika, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject of medical cannabis. I agree the laws are still funny as far as how they want to govern this plant.

      Cheers,

      Kevin

  5. Greetings! I’ve just gone through your article and believe me, I found it very helpful. I must say that adequate sleep is an important health factor that needs to be considered because it can lead to serious health issues. I’m glad I came across this article to learn the importance of marijuana. Do I have to get permission from my doctor to use marijuana for sleep, or can I go ahead? Thanks anyway for sharing this article with us.

    1. Hello, Kokontala; first, I am happy to learn you found value in my information. Secondly, you should contact your medical professional or attending physician and discuss your plans before trying any products. You must investigate the products you wish to try and then after discussing again with your PCP.

Medical marijuana is still in its infancy and is continually tested and studied for medical disorders. The evidence is coming in slowly, but medical marijuana promises to be a great option for many people.

      Cheers,

      Kevin
